We are excitedly preparing to unveil our home’s transformation, having undergone an extensive full-home refurbishment. We think everyone will agree it looks absolutely beautiful, with some completely new spaces created.
The newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms look stunning, as do the lounges and hair and beauty salon, complete with a nail bar for a spot of pampering - and there’s even a new bistro café area.
As well as providing residential care, we also offer both short stay and longer-term respite care breaks, which can be pre-booked in advance. We know how important respite care is to support caregivers looking after elderly relatives in our local community, so that they can take a well-earned rest.
Family and friends often say how Nunthorpe Oaks feels like a home from home. Our team members are devoted to enriching our residents’ lives, with a high standard of truly person-centred care and engaging, meaningful activities and social interaction.
Gardens at our care home in Nunthorpe
A real focal point of the service, our secure gardens are stunning and include seating areas, pergolas bursting with colour and a vegetable plot. They include wheelchair-friendly pathways which are ideal for our more frail residents, and are the perfect spot for our residents to spend time with their family and friends. The garden room opens out onto the courtyard, which is wonderful during the warmer weather.
In the summer months, we often hold social gatherings with families and friends on the lawns with Buck’s Fizz, barbecues, and garden games.
What is the food like at Nunthorpe Oaks?
Our catering team prepare delicious, home-cooked food. From fish and chip Fridays to their superb Sunday roast with all the trimmings, as well as freshly-baked cakes, mealtimes are a real highlight. Our residents also love their fresh fruit smoothies.
Activities to enhance well-being
The care home has a new cinema lounge for watching the great classics and modern movies, complete with a popcorn machine. We organise lots of individual and small group activities, like our knitting club, music sessions, bingo and light exercise classes. Many of our residents also really enjoy having pamper sessions in the care home’s hairdressing salon. The home is also a short walk from Nunthorpe Bowling Club, where our residents have loved watching matches.
During ‘normal times’, we have welcomed visits from youngsters from the local nursery in Middlesbrough, who have loved spending time with their seniors. Other visitors have included students from our local high school, Nunthorpe Academy. During mealtimes they would take our residents’ orders at the table, waiting on them as though they were in a restaurant. We are also able to use our neighbouring scheme’s minibus for outings into the village and wider community in Cleveland and Redcar. Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough is another popular place to visit, as well as the church in Nunthorpe.
A local respite services in Middlesbrough
As well as providing residential care, our flexible respite care breaks are ideal for local caregivers supporting elderly relatives, providing the peace of mind their loved one is in safe hands while they take a break. You might be in your senior years struggling to care for a partner at home, or a son or daughter caring for an elderly parent, we’re here to support you. Respite care is also a great way to explore transitioning into residential care, if you are not sure it’s quite right for you.
At Nunthorpe Oaks, we work closely with the district nursing team in Middlesbrough who support our residents with conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease (MND) or Parkinson’s, those who have suffered a stroke or have multiple sclerosis (MS). This means we can often provide care and support to people with a wide range of conditions.
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for their care in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions. Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to truly understand the level of care and support needed.
Our 2022 weekly care fees for residential care start from £895 but maybe in the region of 20% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms to our premium bedroom options.
*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support, your weekly fee could be higher.
Based on an independent survey completed by our resident's friends and family.
