A wonderful surprise
Thank you to Lidl in Peterlee for such a beautiful surprise for our residents. What amazing community spirit.
A short drive from the picturesque beach in the home’s own minibus, the residents at Cedar Court love to make the most of our coastal location.
Members of the team are very loyal and exceptionally caring, often coming in on their days off to see the residents or help if there is a special celebration. The home’s Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which rated Cedar Court Good in every single area inspected, highlighted the caring nature of the team. Comments included: "I think they're marvellous, they're lovely staff".
With three members of staff dedicated to providing stimulating activities, plus a number of kind-hearted volunteers, Cedar Court’s residents have so much to do. For residents living with dementia, there is a Singing for the Brain group in Seaham which they love to go to.
One of the home’s volunteers drives the minibus, so the activities team is never short of help when taking residents to places, including Seaham beach or a social club the gents like to visit. Here they can meet up with people from other residential and nursing care homes across Durham for a chat and games. Another popular spot some of the residents like to visit is the Herrington Country Park in Houghton-le-Spring.
Cedar Court has its own hairdressing salon, which has a nail bar if residents fancy a manicure or hand massage. Our gents often like to visit to have their facial hair trimmed too. As well as the mobile hairdresser that visits each week, one of our care team was once a hairdresser, so if our residents have a wedding or family celebration, she makes sure their hair and make-up look their best.
One of the team is also trained to deliver Oomph! exercise classes, which are specially tailored for people living in residential and nursing homes. And of course, a competitive game of bingo is always a must!
The loved ones of our residents are embraced into life at Cedar Court and often join us for our celebrations and garden parties. They are also welcome to bring in their well-behaved pets, which some of our residents really look forward to. There is a large room in the home which was once a day centre, where the families of our residents are welcome to host special celebrations to mark birthdays and anniversaries. This is especially helpful for our residents with greater nursing needs, or those living in the later stages of dementia because they can enjoy these celebrations from the comfort of their home.
Mealtimes are a real highlight in our care home, with the quality of the nutritious, home-cooked food receiving very high praise in Cedar Court’s CQC report. Comments in the report included: "I've come up on a Sunday lunchtime and it makes my mouth water." Another quote included: "Food, it's great, I like everything I get. I don't leave anything".
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for their care in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions. Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to truly understand the level of care and support needed.
Our 2022 weekly care fees for residential care start from £888 and £1,016 for nursing care, but maybe in the region of 20% more*, dependent on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options.
*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support your weekly fee could be higher.
