Our Northfield care home has a wonderful, family atmosphere, with a team devoted to enriching our residents’ lives with truly person-centred residential, dementia and respite care.
One of our five Birmingham care homes, our residents are actively involved in how The Beeches is run, so it truly feels like home. Involved in everything from interviewing potential staff to deciding what activities they’d like to take part in; we champion our residents’ independence every step of the way.
With our own chef and catering team, mealtimes are a real highlight, with delicious home-cooked meals and freshly-baked cakes and biscuits for afternoon tea. And it’s not just the traditional. One resident who was originally from the Caribbean was keen to sample some authentic cuisine from home, so our chef makes a speciality authentic curry and dishes like yam and sweet potatoes. Keen to try new tastes, these are firm favourites with many of our other residents too!
Residents at The Beeches are very much involved in the menus. They review them on a monthly basis and the chef makes changes to reflect their preferences.
Outside the residential care home, there is a sensory garden which was created with the help of local students who visited our Northfield care home to work on special projects. There is a fish pond and a vegetable patch where our residents love to grow their own, which is so therapeutic, especially for those living with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. We also have raised beds and wheelchair-friendly pathways, which are perfect for our residents with greater physical disabilities. Some of our residents’ bedrooms, all of which are spacious and en-suite, have patio doors leading directly to the gardens.
Our residents’ friends and family are very much part of life at The Beeches and love to get involved in activities like our cheese and wine evenings. There is always plenty of pampering going on in our hairdressing salon, and we’ve created a movie room where residents can enjoy a movie matinee with popcorn!
Other popular visitors have included student paramedics from Birmingham, who have carried out work experience and toddlers from the local nursery in Northfield.
We are very lucky to have also purchased a Magic Table which is designed for people living with Alzheimer’ and other types of dementia, where residents play interactive light games. It encourages gentle movement as they reach out to catch fish or pop bubbles, so it’s wonderful for social interaction and movement for people with greater physical disabilities.
As well as residential care and support for people living with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia, The Beeches and all of our Birmingham care homes provide planned respite care breaks. These are ideal if you are a caregiver looking after an elderly relative, and you need a relief care break to recharge the batteries. We can also offer emergency respite for when something unexpected happens. Our short stay breaks are also ideal if you are considering transitioning into care and would like a flavour of what life at our Northfield care home is like. Or, perhaps you are an elderly person living alone and would like a little companionship.
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for their care in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions. Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to truly understand the level of care and support needed.
Our 2022 weekly care fees for residential care start from £911 but may be in the region of 20% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms to our premium bedroom options.
*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support, your weekly fee could be higher.
