Care from the heart

Although grand in appearance, Glenfairn House has a wonderful welcoming, homely feel and that’s down to the established, experienced team, some of whom have worked here for 10 and even 20 years.

A thriving local community

Our nursing home is very much part of the local community. Staff regularly take residents on excursions. Whether enjoying afternoon tea with their fellow residents at Sanctuary Care’s Howard House Care Home in Kilmarnock or driving along the coast to Girvan in South Ayrshire for a fish and chip supper - wrapped in newspaper of course! Summer picnics in the Carrick Hills are always popular and we often take residents to Largs for a pint or afternoon tea.

A short drive from the home is Burns Cottage and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway, which our residents love to visit.

Further afield trips to The Kelpies, the largest equine sculptures in the world, near Falkirk, Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the award-winning transport museum – the Riverside Museum – are always popular attractions for our residents, as well as barge trips.

A hub of activity

Our activities team also organises wonderful activities within the home. Many of our ladies like to indulge in the regular pamper sessions. They can enjoy a massage, aromatherapy; have manicures or their make-up done for a special occasion. This can all be enjoyed in the comfort of their own bedrooms, which is ideal for those with greater nursing care needs.  

Our gardens are the perfect spot for summer activities, from bowls and other lawn games, to barbecues and afternoon tea. There is also a summer house which is a wonderful focal point for garden parties. We are also going to build raised beds, which will enable our residents who use wheelchairs to enjoy a spot of light gardening.

Glenfairn House also has a hair salon. Our full-time hairdresser is always joined by her tiny dog Bonnie, whom our residents love to spend time with. The salon, with its traditional hood dryers, is a wonderful spot to socialise while being pampered.

Other popular activities are the home’s poetry group and animal therapy visits, which are especially therapeutic for our residents living with dementia.

Mealtimes are also a wonderfully social occasion. Head chef Diane has worked at the care home for over 20 years and knows exactly what our residents love to eat. She makes fresh soups daily with locally sourced ingredients and is a talented baker!

For the relatives of our residents living with dementia, we hold a regular support and awareness café. This gives loved ones the opportunity to gain an even deeper understanding of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It also enables them to spend time with people in a similar position to them.

Situated on the main Racecourse Road, the nursing home has excellent transport links. It is on the main bus route and is close to Ayr Train Station.

Pricing Information

It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for their accommodation in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions.

Our 2022 weekly room fee starts from £1,100 but may be up to £1,334. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms to our premium bedroom options.

*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support, your weekly fee could be higher.
